You Don't Build a Force to Police a Hoax: Trump's New 'AI Force' Concedes the Risk He Keeps Denying

Trump posted to Truth Social on September 19: "Like the Space Force, which was a tremendous success in my first term, we will create an AI Force." An "AI Czar" will be announced soon — with one stated qualification: "Only high-IQ people should apply."

The role he sketched for the new body: watching for unexpected incidents from rapid AI advancement — autonomous hacking attacks were the example — while "cherishing, supporting, and growing" the AI industry, and catching "AI's misdeeds" through "the existing criminal justice system."

In the same post, he described the rising concern about AI risk — the concern his new force exists to monitor — as "one of many scams invented by radical-left Democrats over the years to destroy America," comparing it to climate change, which he has long called a hoax. "This all started," he wrote, "with the attacks on data centers."

The Contradiction Is the Confession

Hold the two halves of the post together. AI risk is a Democrat-invented hoax, like climate change. Also: the United States requires a new military-modeled force, under a czar, to monitor autonomous AI incidents.

Governments do not stand up forces against hoaxes. The institution's existence concedes what its founder denies — that frontier systems can act unpredictably at a scale requiring standing surveillance. This is the tell that the dismissals of the past two weeks were positioning, not assessment: the risk is real enough to build an agency around, as long as acknowledging it never validates the "traitors" who warned about it first.

Read the design, because it describes the opposite of a regulator. A statutory AI agency would set rules that bind everyone, survive administrations, and answer to Congress — which is what the Democratic bills now stacking up in the House would create, and what this announcement preempts. An AI Czar answers to the president; an AI Force "cherishes and supports" the industry while wielding "the existing criminal justice system" against misdeeds the executive identifies. Combined with the September 14 statement — "enormous criminal and regulatory power over these companies," aimed at a named dissenting CEO — the architecture is coherent: one office through which all AI oversight flows, protective toward aligned firms, prosecutorial toward critics, and constitutionally anchored in the person Trump has already declared the only safeguard AI needs: "a strong, smart, high-IQ president." The czar's IQ requirement is not a joke. It is the org chart.

The Economics Claim, and the Timing

The post also carried the boldest economic claim yet attached to the buildout: AI is "the next industrial revolution or internet and beyond" — potentially "25% of GDP." No timeframe, no source; for scale, all of US manufacturing is about 10% of GDP. The number's function is political: something worth a quarter of the economy justifies any measure taken to protect it, from overriding town councils to prosecuting critics.

The timing points at next week. AI safety is on the agenda at the UN General Assembly opening September 22, and at the Xi summit on the 24th — where the state dinner seats Altman, Jensen Huang, and Sundar Pichai. Announcing the AI Force now means Trump arrives at both venues as the man with an answer to AI governance — his own — before any international framework can define one for him.

What It Means for Markets

The near-term read extends the buildout floor: an administration creating an industry-guardian force will not slow capex, and the Democratic regulation bills now have a declared veto waiting.
